Too frequently we just do what makes sense to us and ask God to bless it. We get so caught up in the world that we forget we as believers are not of it. We like to make life comfortable. It is so easy to forget that we have brothers and sisters in Africa, dying of starvation while we throw out leftovers. It is so easy to ignore the orphan crisis when you aren’t the only provider for your younger brothers and sisters at the age of ten. When we do remember, it’s usually not welcomed. Uninvited pamphlets from sponsorship organizations make their way through the mail into our hands. We see the people with flies on their faces and covered in filth, we look down on the population in pity.
As Christians we forget...
"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven"
Matthew 5:3-12
We should be asking “God, what is your will for my life.” But instead end up putting God in a comfy little box, right where we want him. I’m going to let you in on a little secret: if you let God out of the box and into your heart, he will put the plans you had for this life to shame.
Go out into the World and be blessed.
