During the first few months of Ekisa, we took our time to get settled and in a routine. Now that we (kind of) are in the swing of things, we are able to get serious about some pretty important things, like: Physical therapy!!!!!!!!
Last week we took 4 of our kids to a hospital in Kampala last week to get assessed by physical therapists, doctors, and occupational therapists. After the 2 hour journey we arrived at the hospital only to find out all the doctors were away at a conference. Thankfully one came back and we were able to be seen that day. What a blessing it was to be able to take our children somewhere to get specialized care!!
After getting our consult the therapist recommended what equipment would be best for our kids. YUP...this place is a hospital AND a workshop for people with disabilities!
So we placed orders for standing frames, walkers, wheelchairs, and CP chairs! This is going to cost us around $500 (total of equipment, original assessment, and transport). Our equipment should be ready in a few weeks – and I think we can raise $500 dollars by then!!!

Debra (pictured above) smiled the WHOLE way through her assessment and was VERY excited when we talked about getting wheels on her standing frame just for her!! She also was eyeing another little boy's CP wheelchair. We couldn’t resist when she nodded yes, with those sweet eyes full of HOPE, when we asked if she would like one too! Our little Debra LOVES physical therapy, and even though the odds are against her she has got enough determination and spunk alone to be able to walk someday! This girl has SUCH potential! Will you help her reach it?! Please click here and donate!!
Also we are hiring a FULL TIME physical therapist! It took us awhile to find one, and we are SO excited to get the kids on some STRICT PT plans! BUT we also have to fundraise to hire him. It is going to cost $250 a month for a full time PT, which is kind of steep for one person to fund – but if we have 5 people sign up for $50 dollar sponsorship on our website we will be able to cover the cost!

Thank you SO much for all of you reading, praying, and loving!

Hey girls! So glad to hear you found a place to get equipment ordered from! that is really cheap as far as equipment goes! And I'm assuming you found a local PT? That is really exciting! I finally got all the vids you sent me downloaded and will try to write a lengthy reply soon. I LOVE seeing Debra doing so well!
Katalemwa! I went there every Wednesday morning while I was in Uganda! The org I was with does a program for the kids on Wednesday mornings. :) Praying for y'all & excited that you're getting as in the swing as y'all are getting. :) I seriously just love your kids.
I knew Debra when she was only a few months old living at amani. It's amazing to see pictures of her and read your blog. I am so encouraged by your work and pray God will continue to use you in the lives of these children.
Physical therapy assistants can work in nearly a dozen different types of settings, each with different focuses, clientele, expected and outcomes. Visit good website for the details.
